Diego Velázquez

Diego Velázquez (1599-1660) was the greatest painter of the Spanish Golden Age and court artist to King Philip IV. His masterpiece Las Meninas, with its play of gazes and mirrors, is still studied as one of the most intelligent paintings ever made.
